Kaytie Odom (b. 2001) is a figurative oil painter located in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Her work explores identity, sexuality, and expression through the shadow self. Through figures reminiscent of her own feminine experience, Odom brings the inner self outward, praising identities and desires long subdued by societal expectations in a male-dominated world. Inspired by her love for cinema, theatre, and fashion, Odom’s work explores expression through theatricality and deliberate staging of her figures. Creating scenes that reside within the after-hours, where socially displaced desires can finally be enacted and unleashed. Within these surreal, liminal settings, Odom’s figures don’t take on a new persona but reveal who they have always been, blurring the line between what is true to the figure’s identity and what is performed. Using thick layers of paint, Odom imbues her subjects with a weighted presence, glorifying the shadow self and challenging the traditionally soft, delicate qualities society attributes to and fetishizes in femininity.

In 2026, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Tampa, where she placed second at the Annual Juried Show in 2024 and was named Most Outstanding Art Student in her final semester. She was selected as one of fifteen emerging artists at the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts and received their Collegiate Scholarship in 2025. After graduation, Odom completed a residency at the New York Academy of Art through the SURP program.
